Notesaaz

Notesaaz is an instrument for live electronic music, and a proposal for a three stage process where the physical controller is used to navigate within a graphical score that on its turn controls the sound generation.

The dynamic score in Notesaaz is created by using two sets of lines. The intersection points of the two sets of lines are continuously being detected, followed and translated into parameters that trigger and control the generated sound. By controlling and interacting with the geometrical arrangement of the lines on the screen, Notesaaz allows complex control over multiple sound parameters using a small number of input parameters.

By showing the dynamic score to the performer and the audience, Notesaaz suggests new possibilities for staging the performer instrument relationship, inviting the audience to engage more in what is played and to anticipate on what happens next.
